The final scores are finally up, and we got 26th place overall after some really, really fantastic teams. I am so proud of you guys and everything we've done together. With these results, HSO is officially over, you guys, and I couldn't have had a more fun and creative summer.

ALSO WE GOT A PRETTY THING.

As far as I know, I can keep the comm running and I'm definitely leaving the AIM blast group intact. Movie night is still on though I don't know when'll be good for everyone, so please, someone suggest a time so we at least know when people can't make it. XD I also might read a Terry Pratchett book aloud to you guys, mayyyybe.

Keep on making stuff, guys!

Sort of short notice, but how about we watch Ratatouille tonight around 8 PM EST? That'll give me some time to get livestream set up and make sure everything works.

Here are the results of the collab round voting! We got 20th place, and we're still waiting on the final scores.

Remember to check out the post below if you haven't yet! Movie night, guys: let's make it happen.

Remember, collab round voting closes tonight, so try your best to get those babies read! A lot of them are really long. You know. Like ours. XD

Also, if you haven't contributed to the members-only thing tagged "shhh," then you might want to go have a look at it. Unless your name is Aaron, in which case. You should not. Though I dunno, I guess you can if you want to, since it's not just for you. Though it's partially for you.

Also don't forget to get your recs in for BR6!

You guys are great and I'll miss working together on stuff. This made me remember how much fun writing actually is, and I'll hopefully be picking up the pace and doing more of it in the future.

SINCE you guys are so great, what do you say to having a movie night? I know not all our time zones are compatible, but if you think I can get at least a few of you in livestream at once, maybe I'll stream Ratatouille or something. Make suggestions here!

Bonus Round 6

Recs

Hey, shippers! This is the last bonus round, which we’re all very sad about. So let’s talk about some of the awesome stuff created throughout the HSO!

Rules
  1. Rec at least three fanworks from the main or bonus rounds! They do not have to be connected to each other in any way.

  2. You may not recommend material created by members of your own team.

  3. Each recommendation must include at least three full sentences about why it’s awesome. Please use the format specified below.

  4. You may recommend as many sets as you like, so long as each set has at least three recs in it.

Title & Rec Format
If you are doing a fill, use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.

The content of the post should be in this format (extend as necessary):

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
For fills (as stated here):
First 5 entries in each post: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10 in each post: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15 in each post: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+ in each post: 5 (per entry)

If you have any questions, please ask them at the FAQ post here, or email them to us (homestuck.shipping at gmail). Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that we will see them in a timely fashion!

First! BR5 is over, sorry to say! It looks like deadlines are being moved up since there will only be one round of voting for the collab rounds.

BR6 is UP, though! It's basically a round of friendly buttpats for everybody where you rec three entries, either main round or bonus, and explain why they're great. I'll be making a separate post for this because I think it'll be especially nice to see everyone's fills for this round, see what people liked, get maybe a specialized eye on what to read/look at.

The current standings are also up! We are now in 28th place, if I counted correctly. Which I may not have.

ALSO IMPORTANT VOTING STUFF:
ROUND THREE VOTING: PHASE TWO is due this Saturday, August 18th!
COLLAB ROUND VOTING is due next Wednesday, August 22nd!

All of that can be found here!

I am on a rollllll with this commspam thing today.

The standings just went up! We are in 35th place out of, what, 120 teams? Really good, guys!

I bet we can still jump ahead a ton if we milk this bonus round. Plus our collab round was pretty sweet, if I say so myself!

Today is apparently another "Ash spams the comm" day.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot: Everyone's already seen our collab round (obviously), but here it is in its finalized glory on the collab round comm!

Is HERE!!! Finally. No points for prompts this time but since there's nothing else on our plates (besides the shhh thing, see below unless you're Aaron), maybe we can really tear into filling these.

Also, scores went up for R2. We didn't place, but we still did amazing, guys, I really mean it. I loved that round, even if I didn't get to participate in it. And also we got fanart for it. Win/win!

Anyway, here's the details of the bonus round c/ped for your convenience:

Bonus Round 5

Tales from the Road

Hey, shippers! HSO is winding down, so we thought we'd take a look back at the journey, so to speak. With that in mind, this next bonus round is going to be roadtrip-themed! Give us a little taste of your characters' life on the road, whatever form that takes.

Rules
  1. Submit prompts! Prompts should consist of one ship (friendship/gen is fine too!) and a location. This cannot be your team's ship! This round we will not be giving points for prompts.

  2. Look through the prompts and fill whichever you like!

  3. You may not fill prompts for your ship, nor may you fill your own team's prompts.

  4. Fills should be posted as replies to the prompts which they are for, following the format below. They may be any medium.

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.

If you are filling a prompt, use this format in your title.

Bonus Round 4

Mobius Double Reacharound FST - Revisited

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 4! Bringing back a favourite from last year! (Sorry for the delay, we're very busy!)

Here’s how this is going to work: somebody will submit a selection of 3-6 songs without comment. Then somebody else will come along and create a companion fanwork to fit the soundtrack!

Rules
  1. If you are submitting a soundtrack: submit only the track listing and download or youtube links. The idea is that people should ~interpret~ your selections!

  2. You are not allowed to fill soundtrack prompts with your team's ship, nor are you allowed to fill your own soundtracks.

  3. Soundtracks count for 5 points each, for a maximum of 100 points per team.

  4. Fills may be in whatever format you choose (except FST, of course) so long as they link the songs by mood and/or lyrics in some kind of narrative.

  5. Post your fill as a comment to the prompt post, using the title format described below.

  6. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EST August 3rd.

Title Format

If you are starting a new thread, please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.

OKAY GUYS I just checked the schedule and there is no Round Four. There is only the collab round and BR4 which has yet to go up. THE COLLAB ROUND IS DUE IN TWO WEEKS, ON AUGUST 4TH! So we really need to get our butts in gear and figure out exactly what we're doing, especially as we don't have any other rounds to focus on.

This post is public so don't post your ideas here--I just wanted to make sure everyone would be able to see this if they're not logged in and then to log in so we all know what we're doing. I'm making a private post right after this one so we can really lock down and discuss.

If you haven't had a chance to participate in a round yet, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE! The more hands in the pot, the better the soup, especially in this collab round. Our idea's really open-ended so if you have something you're dying to write, draw, or otherwise make, you bet you'll be able to squeeze it in.

Also, GREAT job on R3, guys, and you've all been fantastic throughout this challenge so far! Best team, for reals.

Bonus Round Three is up, too! And we're allowed to work with our own ship for this one, though of course spreading the love is awesome. Here's your usual copy-pasta:

Bonus Round 3

Retro Gaming

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!

Rules
  1. Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.

  2. Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.

  3. For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!

  4. For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!

  5. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

Title Format
Please use this format in your title.

Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your team name is not in this format and in the title we cannot guarantee that it will be counted.
Replace [GAME TITLE] and [YEAR RELEASED] as appropriate.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All content must be created new for this round.

Hi, guys! It's announcement time! Round 1 Voting is nooooooow up! Here is the link for you to go and cast your votes once you're done reading ALL OF SECTOR TWO'S WORKS!

Happy reading, and voting!

Just one thing before I hop on a plane: as per the most recent announcement, make sure you join the Round 1 comm so you can see all the entries, even if they haven't been unlocked yet.

Have a great time, guys! I'm sure I'll pop in now and then but until I come back, Max's in charge! Behave, okay?

(Don't worry, Max, it's not hard.)
asherdashery: (Default)
[personal profile] asherdashery
Check it, guys. I've unlocked our post so everyone should now be able to see the final product, but we're to read Sector 2's works. Discussing is fun, but try not to accidentally sway people to vote one way or another--everyone's got their own opinions!

Also, we're currently in sixth place with 105 points, and that's not even counting BR1, R1, or BR2! We look good, guys, we really do! Keep up the good work!

ALSO, I will be going on a trip from this Wednesday to next Friday (so a week and a half), and while I'll probably still be around at least a bit, I'm going to be asking our vice-palhoncho Max [personal profile] ohdeerling to be our point person for this time.

Great work, guys, and keep on rolling!

Anyone who wants to volunteer to come up with an awesome catchphrase for our team will be summarily appointed team cheerleader and will get to see me use it at the end of every post. WINK WONK.

Bonus Round 2

The Return of Round Robin Fanadventures

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 2.
Round Robin Fanadventures generated so much awesome stuff last year that we decided to bring it back!

For those who are new to HSO, this is not actually that complicated a concept, but it might be a little tricky to explain, so bear with me. The point of this round is to create a bunch of fanadventures that are for a team other than your own.

Rules
  1. If you are starting a new adventure: start a new thread using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art setting a scene (or both!), and finish with a command (==> does not count as a command for new threads). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
  2. If you are continuing an adventure: find a thread that does not center around your team's ship. Then comment using the title format defined below. Include either text or 1-2 pieces of embedded art continuing the scene (or both!), and finish with a command (this can include ==>, though generally we would prefer otherwise). Then sit back and wait for someone else to contribute!
  3. For ease of reading, we suggest using standardized image sizes. 600x400 landscape is a pretty good size! But as long as it's the same as the other images in the thread, people will have an easier time following along. The HTML for inserting images is <img src="http://yourimageurlhere.com">
  4. For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
  5. You may not comment twice in a row in one adventure. The point is to hand off the scene like a hot potato.
  6. You may not introduce or create for your team's ship into a fanadventure. If someone else introduces your team's ship to a thread, you can still contribute to that thread so long as your contributions do not involve your ship.
  7. This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the LJ timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

NOTES:
  • Audio posts are fine, so long as you include a transcript.
  • Please make sure to check that your titles are correct!
  • You may answer commands that have already been answered. Think of it like a 'choose your own adventure' game!

Title Format
If you are starting a new thread, use this format in your title.

Replace [THEIR SHIP] with the ship you want this particular fanadventure thread to be. Remember that you cannot create a fanadventure based on your own ship. Whatever ship you choose must be represented by a HSO team not your own. The only exception is gen adventures, which are permitted.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with. If your team name is not in this format and in the title it may not be counted.

If you are continuing a thread, use this format in your title.

Replace [COMMAND] with whatever command the previous fill has specified.
Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team YOU belong to; please use the characters and quadrant, not whatever portmanteau or nickname you've come up with.
If your title is not in this format it may not be counted.

Posts not using this format in the title will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, no matter what they contain. They, like all comments on the comm, are subject to the Wank Policy.

Scoring
(as stated here)
First 5 entries per team: 30 (per entry)
Entries 6-10: 20 (per entry)
Entries 11-15: 10 (per entry)
Entries 16+: 5 (per entry)

All fanadventure content must be created new for this round.

We would prefer that any questions about this challenge or anything else in the HSO be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail!

Looks like I jumped the gun on making that post five minutes ago, haha. HERE'S ROUND TWO, GUYS, KNOCK YOURSELVES OUT!

ROUND TWO: MONSTERS

where the wild things are

Hey shippers!
Welcome to the second main round. We're working on getting your R1 posts up and running ASAP, and will be making an announcement as soon as we've processed all of them! It--might be a little while, sorry.

This round, your challenge is to incorporate supernatural creatures somehow. Zombies, ghosts, werewolves, and of course vampires/rainbow drinkers are all welcome!

Make sure the supernatural aspects of your entry are dealt with in a substantial way—ideally it shouldn't just be a throwaway line.
And as always, if you are unsure whether something counts or not, just ask! You can reach us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail.

All submissions must be created/assembled new for this round by members of your team.

This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 7. If your Palhoncho sends it in after that time according to the gmail timestamp, your team’s submission will get posted--but we cannot guarantee that it will be posted in a timely manner.

Requirements (as stated in the Info Post)
Fic/meta must be between 800-3000 words.
Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.
Cosplay must be at least 75% created or assembled new for the challenge.
Gifs and other animations must be 8 seconds or less total. (e.g. you could have one 5-second gif and one 3-second gif)
Games are still subject to the 10-image limit.
Live-action movies are limited to one minute total.
Original music is also limited to one minute total.

The penalties for going over 3k words will be as follows:
3000-3050: no penalty (to allow for disparities in wordcount software)
3051-3150: -30 points
3151-3250: -60 points
etc.
PLEASE NOTE that gdocs is notoriously bad at generating an accurate wordcount, so you should probably check your submission at http://www.wordcounter.net/ just to make sure.
Also, this year we are requiring transcriptions of all text on images. These transcriptions count towards the wordcount.

Please remember not to post your HSO creations publicly until voting ends, whether or not they are chosen as part of the team submission. We would like to keep things as anonymous as possible!

Submission Format
Submissions should be formatted as outlined here.

Questions about this challenge should be emailed to us at homestuck.shipping AT gmail! We will try to answer any questions posted as comments here, but we may not see them in a timely manner.

THOUGHTS
WE'VE HAD SO FAR in, you know, the last five minutes:
- making Dave a werewolf for the ~irony~
- Illustrating some music
- doing some research to find supernatural things others have not done (I
think I might be something of a good resource for this to just bounce ideas off of)
